Jen Easterly
Director, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency
Jen Easterly was born in Potomac, Maryland. She earned an undergraduate degree at the United Sates Military Academy, West Point, and received an M.A. from Pembroke College, Oxford, where she was a Rhodes scholar. She served 20 years in the United States Army and was an assistant professor of social sciences at the U.S. Military Academy. She was an operations officer with the 70th Military Intelligence Brigade. She deployed to Baghdad with the National Security Agency and worked for NSA’S Tailored Access Operations. She retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
After retirement, she served as deputy director of the NSA for two years. She was a special assistant to President Barack Obama and a senior director for counterterrorism in the National Security Council. She later served as head of cybersecurity for Morgan Stanley.
She was nominated by President Joe Biden to be the Director of the Cybersecurity ad Infrastructure Security Agency. After confirmation by the Senate, she assumed office in July 2021.
She is married to Jason Tighe Easterly and they have one son.

During an event hosted by the Asian Institute, the nation’s top cybersecurity official, Jen Easterly, said the government of China is investing heavily in ways to sabotage U.S. infrastructure.
“Given the formidable nature of the threat from Chinese state actors, given the size of their capability, given how much resources and effort they’re putting into it, it’s going to be very, very difficult for us to prevent disruptions from happening,” Jen Easterly, Director of the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, said.
Her comments come as tensions continue to rise between the United States and China, including in cyberspace.
